Area rugs
Area rugs are primarily decorative. They can be used on
top of hardwood floors or on top of existing carpet to pull a room together.
Consumers with limited knowledge of the principles of decor can get
a book from the library or hire an interior decorator to help them pick
out area rugs.
There are some general tips for decorating with area rugs. Choose a
rug that allows at least eight inches of wood to be seen around the
perimeter when covering a hardwood floor. Also, the rug can be used
to contrast with the wood's natural color.
When picking out area rugs for a dining room, measure the tabletop.
The minimum size of the dining room area rug should have an extra four
feet of width and length above and beyond the size of the tabletop.
This area will help facilitate pulling chairs from under the table.
