Oriental rugs
Oriental rugs are hand-woven and so each one is unique.
Some manufactured rugs are designed to have the appearance of an Oriental
rug. However, a consumer can tell if it is the genuine article by looking
underneath the rug and seeing if the pattern on top matches the pattern
below.
Oriental rugs can come from all over the world. 20 years ago rugs from
Asia were very popular. Now, Oriental rugs from other parts of the world
such as the Middle East also sell well.
Do not use a standard upright vacuum to clean oriental rugs because
the rolling pin with bristles can damage the carpet. Instead, use a
stick vacuum or a broom. Also, rotate the rug every six months to a
year so that each part of the rug receives the same amount of sunlight.
This prevents the rug from fading excessively in one area.
